Highland Park Elementary School receives $10,000 and
a school supply-filled backpack for every student from MDwise
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – 02/19/2010
Today, MDwise presented a backpack filled with much-needed school supplies to every student at Highland Park Elementary School in Bloomington, Ind.
“Words just can't express my gratitude to MDwise for donating backpacks to our Highland Park Elementary students,” said Jan Williamson, principal at Highland Park Elementary.
“This donation is so unexpected and very much appreciated.”
The Indianapolis-based statewide managed health care organization delivered more than 350 backpacks filled with notebooks, pencils, erasers and crayons to the school, along with a $10,000 check.
The donations are part of “Tools for Schools,” a new MDwise program providing funding and supplies to nine Indiana schools in need, including schools in Bloomington, Indianapolis, Gary and East Chicago. In addition to Highland Park, MDwise plans to donate funds and backpacks to Fairview Elementary and Edgewood Primary schools in Bloomington.
“MDwise couldn’t think of a better time to give some of our students in great need a fresh batch of school supplies and some additional funds to improve their educational experience,” said Charlotte MacBeth, chief executive officer of MDwise. “We are a health care-focused company, and we know that getting a good education is a significant part of every child’s overall health and well-being.”
Highland Park Elementary intends to use the $10,000 donation to enhance student education.
MDwise worked with Indiana State Representative Peggy Welch (district 60) to identify an area school in great need of assistance.
“I am fortunate to represent incredible schools with teachers dedicated to making a difference in the lives of all their students,” Rep. Welch said. “However, some of our children have barriers to being active participants in their learning, one being the lack of basic materials and tools. I appreciate MDwise’s generosity to our Highland Park students by providing some of those basics.”
