MDwise, Raphael Health Center help families stay safe with training program, car seats and other safety items

MDwise, a health maintenance organization that serves more than 300,000 Hoosiers on Medicaid, is partnering with Raphael Health Center to help Indianapolis families keep their children safe and healthy.
Raphael Health Center’s free Healthy Choice Program is funded by the Indiana State Department of Health and will serve 52 moms and dads who are expecting or recently added a child to their family, providing training on topics such as car seat safety, safe sleep, childhood nutrition, healthy relationships, breastfeeding and developmental milestones.
“MDWise is dedicated to helping improve the health of Hoosiers in every way possible,” said MDWise President and CEO Jessica Cromer. “By supporting educational programs like Healthy Choices, we hope to be a part of the solution to Indiana’s high infant mortality rate and to ensure that children grow up healthy and strong.”
A leader in providing accessible, affordable, high-quality outpatient health care services to the medically underserved, Raphael Health Center is located at 34th Street and Central Avenue in the Mapleton Fall Creek neighborhood. It is a Federally Qualified Health Center providing a range of health care services, including primary care, behavioral health care, dental care and optometry.
Raphael will hold six Healthy Choices group training sessions over the course of a year. Parents who complete the program will have the opportunity to choose one piece of new safety equipment, such as a car seat, stroller or portable play yard, free of charge.
MDWise is supporting the Healthy Choices program with a $5,000 donation, matching funds provided by the Indiana State Department of Health.
Health Choices sessions will begin on Oct. 1. For information about enrolling, contact Belva Willis, patient advocate, at 317-860-3966 or
