MDwise brings holiday spirit to homeless children in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana children who are homeless will get a better night’s sleep this holiday season, thanks to MDwise, the state’s largest not-for-profit managed care organization, who donated more than $3,000 in children’s supplies to homeless shelters in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville. MDwise hand delivered blankets, books, toiletries and other necessities, as well as some handmade items, to Holy Family Shelter and the Julian Center in Indianapolis, the Transitions in Fort Wayne and the YWCA in Evansville Dec. 17, 2009.
The donations were collected during a four-week supply drive among MDwise staff as part of Project Night Night, a California-based program that collects items for homeless children nationwide.
“When we think about homelessness, we tend to forget about the many children who don’t have a place to call ‘home’ at night. There is an overwhelming need for funding and supplies to help these children have a better quality of life,” said Charlotte MacBeth, chief executive office of MDwise. “The spirit of giving has been ever so present among the MDwise staff this holiday season, and we are so grateful for the time and effort our employees spent to raise these donations.”
MDwise staff, as well as their families and friends, assembled 185 Project Night Night tote bags, exceeding the original goal of 150, containing books, blankets and stuffed animals for children staying in the shelters. Several of the items were handmade by MDwise staff. In addition to these supply bags, MDwise donated a bundle of toiletries, including soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, to each shelter.
