Kids with asthma and their families joined MDwise at Conseco Fieldhouse Thursday, Aug. 5, for the Healthy Hoops® Rebound Event, where basketball and other activities taught them how to better manage their asthma conditions and health.

Attendees received free asthma screenings, participated in a basketball clinic with former Pacers player Darnell Hillman – “Dr. Dunk” – and attended educational workshops, as well as received free tickets to an Indiana Fever game.
MDwise and the Central Indiana Healthy Hoops Coalition first brought Healthy Hoops to Indianapolis in August 2009 to educate kids and families about asthma maintenance, and to assess their asthma conditions. MDwise invited kids who attended the 2009 event to return to this year’s “Rebound” event to track their progress.
“MDwise is excited to continue the Healthy Hoops program in Indianapolis,” said Laurie Weinzapfel, Director of Outreach and Customer Service for MDwise. “We were able to help kids improve their asthma conditions over the last year, and we look forward to helping more kids through future Healthy Hoops events.”
