MDwise donates a school-supply filled backpack to every student at two Gary schools and a $60,000 check to Gary Community School Corp.More than 900 backpacks filled with notebooks, pencils, erasers and crayons were donated to the schools today. MDwise also presented a $60,000 donation to Gary Community School Corporation.
The donations are part of “Tools for Schools,” a new MDwise program providing funding and supplies to nine Indiana schools in need, including these two schools in Gary, and schools in East Chicago, Indianapolis and Bloomington.
“MDwise couldn’t think of a better time to give some of our hard-working Hoosier students in need a fresh batch of school supplies and some additional funds to improve their educational experience,” said Charlotte MacBeth, chief executive officer of MDwise. “We are a health care-focused company, and we know that getting a good education is a significant part of every child’s overall health and well-being.”

MDwise worked with Indiana State Representative Charlie Brown (District 3) to identify schools in great need of assistance.

“I commend MDwise for its commitment to the young people of Indiana,” Rep. Brown said. “The correlation between good health practices and educational achievement are well documented. By ensuring that all students are given an opportunity to learn, we can take great strides in guiding Indiana’s young people toward healthier choices both now and when they are adults.”
Gary Community School Corp. intends to use the monetary donation to enhance student education.
