Hundreds of Indiana kids across the state are receiving new school supplies and free health screenings at back-to-school events across the state, where MDwise is providing free backpacks to help students get ready for the new school year.

At the most recent event – the 10th annual Back-to-School Family Fun Day, July 31, at the Marion County Health Department – MDwise donated 500 backpacks and offered backpack safety tips to teach kids how to avoid injury from carrying too much weight or wearing their backpacks improperly.

“MDwise truly enjoys helping kids get the tools they need to start the school year fresh, excel in the classroom, and maintain their overall health and well-being,” said MDwise’s Hollie Flores. MDwise also supports student educational initiatives through its “Tools for Schools” program, which so far has provided donated funds and backpacks filled with school supplies to Hoosier kids in nine Indiana schools. “MDwise’s support of the back-to-school events is an extension of our ‘Tools for Schools’ mission to help kids succeed in school and maintain healthy lifestyles.”

Kids also received free vision, dental, mental health and other medical screenings during the Indianapolis back-to-school event, and families enjoyed music, games and other fun activities. MDwise’s Ms. Bluebelle even joined in the festivities.
MDwise has participated in the annual back-to-school campaign, organized by Covering Kids & Families, for the past several years. In total, MDwise is donating 2,800 backpacks to the program and over 5,000 backpacks to similar events and schools statewide.
