MDwise and the Greater Holy Temple in South Bend hosted the “Healthy Baby, Healthy You” community baby shower on Thursday, November 17th. 88 expecting and current moms, and their guests, came to the Greater Holy Temple to learn more about being a parent and providing proper care for their children.
The event, which was free and open to the public, featured a variety of educational sessions on topics such as creating a healthy environment for moms and their children, nutrition and healthy living, breastfeeding, and smoking cessation. The local March of Dimes agency provided a speaker for the event who talked about prematurity prevention since November is Prematurity Prevention Month. Attendees also had the chance to play games and win great parenting-related prizes.
Additional sponsors of the “Healthy Baby, Healthy You” event included the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Memorial Hospital & Health System, St. Joseph County Health Department, Alcohol & Addictions Resource Center (AARC) – Perinatal Exposure Prevention Project (PEPP) and March of Dimes.
“Statistics show that stress is a leading cause of pregnancy issues, including high blood pressure and hypertension. One of the goals of our Baby Shower event was to give everyone time to unwind and de-stress. Offering pregnant and recently delivered moms the opportunity to come sit down for a meal they didn’t have to cook, where their babies can be loved on, is priceless,” said Beth Temple, Prenatal Care Coordinator at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. “This shower touched on the spiritual, emotional, education, nutritional and physical needs of the moms we work with. It was an amazing event to be a part of.”
