INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – April 6, 2011
More than 200 Indiana providers and provider groups were recently honored with a Healthcare Provider Service Excellence Award from MDwise – a statewide managed health care organization that serves Indiana’s Medicaid population. The award recognizes providers for going above and beyond to assist members of the MDwise Indiana Hoosier Healthwise health coverage plan by providing efficient, quality care.

The following Indiana-based inpatient behavioral health providers who were honored with Service Excellence Awards received $15,000 each for their dedication to ensuring members had an outpatient appointment within seven days of discharge from the hospital, a national quality standard set forth by the National Committee for Quality Assurance:

  • Four County Counseling Center – Logansport, Ind.
  • Community Hospital – Indianapolis, Ind.
  • Otis R. Bowen Center’s Psychiatric Hospital – Warsaw, Ind.
  • Franciscan St. Margaret Health – Dyer, Ind.
  • Michiana Behavioral Health Center – Plymouth, Ind.
  • Howard Regional Health – Kokomo, Ind.
  • Fayette Regional Hospital, Whitewater Valley Pavillion–Connersville, Ind.
  • Harsha Behavioral Center – Terre Haute, Ind.
  • Terre Haute Regional Hospital – Terre Haute, Ind.
  • Parkview Hospital – Fort Wayne, Ind.

MDwise also awarded 147 well-child providers who excelled at scheduling patients aged 0–15 months, 3–6 years and 12–21 years for appropriate exams. Those who met the 90th percentile were awarded $5,000 each and those who met the 75th percentile were awarded $2,500 each. In addition, 53 postpartum provider groups were awarded with $2,500 each for their dedication to scheduling patients for their postpartum visits within 21–56 days of delivery. Recipients of the Service Excellence Awards were identified based on their performance scores and the volumes of patients they serve.

MDwise earned these funds in collaboration with their provider partners, after meeting quality measures, based on findings from the 2009 HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set) – a tool used by to measure performance on important dimensions of care and service. Physicians and other healthcare providers received the funds for contributing toward efforts to meet those quality goals. The dollars will be used to help further improve patient services.

“We rely on our relationships with providers to ensure we’re delivering the best possible care to our members, and these monetary bonuses acknowledge our providers’ commitment to providing quality health care for our members,” said Dr. Caroline Carney-Doebbeling, Chief Medical Officer of MDwise. “The Service Excellence Award recognizes providers in our network who excel in the timely delivery of services for persons recently discharged from the hospital and advance MDwise’s mission to provide high-quality health care.”
