The first annual Jennings County Youth Foundation’s Health and Safety Fair, sponsored by MDwise, was held on Saturday, April 30th. The event celebrated children of all ages in the community, and welcomed parents to take advantage of the health screenings and available health information. Vision and hearing screenings were performed, as well as back scans by a local chiropractic office.

Several community organizations were present. Teen safety, such as bullying and texting, was addressed, and local law enforcement agencies provided important safety information. MDwise provided information on Hoosier Healthwise and the Healthy Indiana Plan, and Ms. Bluebelle made an appearance.
Kelly Hatton, the event’s chairperson, stated that this was a fun-filled day for not only the kids, but for their parents as well. “There are so many great resources in Jennings County, and we were able to offer all the agencies working with our kids an opportunity to share what they do, and with the focus on health and safety, we were able to cover topics from car seat safety to safe driving practices for families with children from birth to teens,” Hatton said.
In addition to the health screenings, there was also a bicycle rodeo, a tour of Rescue 20’s new Autism Speaks ambulance, face painting, basketball, and other interactive activities.
JCYF is excited to have been able to offer health screenings and education to the community, and is grateful for all the sponsors and partners for their support.
