Battle of the Fit promotes physical activity and health and wellness, while making exercise fun for children, all in an effort to combat childhood obesity. Participating schools were required to organize fitness activities for students, such as sports, games and dancing. Schools earned points for the number of students participating and the duration of the activities and could track their progress on a specially designed Battle of the Fit website, BattleoftheFit.MDwise.org.

"We have been so pleased with the participation and enthusiasm displayed by these three schools. Our goal in developing this program was to provide children with an engaging approach to physical fitness,” said Dr. Doebbeling. “Keeping our youth active and healthy continues to be of the utmost importance to us as a health care organization. We encourage these schools and students to continue exercising and eating healthy to stay fit."

"Battle of the Fit provided our students with a unique opportunity to improve our student’s physical health while coming together as a team in an effort to win the challenge," said Julie Bakehorn, principal of Brookside Elementary School 54. “Being the winner and receiving this $6,000 will allow us to provide our students with better fitness equipment and continue to build on the momentum Battle of the Fit created among our students.”
