MDwise donates 2,500 backpacks filled with school supplies to Covering Kids & Families coalitions throughout Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – 2,500 students throughout Indiana received backpacks filled with school supplies at various Covering Kids and Families (CKF) Back-to-School events because of a donation from MDwise, Indiana’s only not-for-profit managed health care organization serving those on the state’s Hoosier Healthwise, Healthy Indiana Plan and Care Select health coverage programs.
The backpacks were filled with notebooks, pencils, erasers and crayons and are part of “MDwise Tools for Schools,” a MDwise program providing backpacks and school supplies to students across the state. The CKF coalitions that received backpacks as part of this initiative include Logansport, Fort Wayne, Muncie, Indianapolis, Gary, Hammond and East Chicago.
CKF of Indiana is a statewide organization made up of more than 500 partner organizations committed to ensuring that all Hoosier children and families eligible for Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) are enrolled. With the help of supporters such as MDwise, CKF conducts various special events, such as Back-to-School events and health fairs, to spread awareness.
“MDwise has a strong history of partnerships with CKF and believes strongly in supporting their healthcare initiatives and efforts,” said Charlotte MacBeth, chief executive officer of MDwise. “We recognize that good education is an important part of every child’s overall health and well-being. We hope these new backpacks and fresh school supplies encourage them to work hard toward academic success.”
“MDwise Tools for Schools” is part of Ms. Bluebelle’s Club for Kids, MDwise’s comprehensive program that promotes the healthy well-being of Hoosier children through special activities and outreach. In 2011, Tools for Schools provided more than 10,000 supply-filled backpacks to schools and back-to-school events across Indiana in 2011. Now in its third year, the program will donate more than 10,500 of these backpacks to schools and back-to-school events across Indiana in 2012.
