WASHINGTON, Ind. – New and expecting moms in Washington had the chance to put their feet up and be the guests of honor at a baby shower event this afternoon. Sponsored by MDwise, Indiana’s only not-for-profit managed health care organization, the “Bluebelle Baby Shower” event honored local moms with door prizes, valuable information and necessary resources.

The event, which took place at Antioch Christian Church for the second year in a row, featured guest speakers on topics including prenatal care, nutrition and breast feeding. Information on local community resources for children and families was also made available to attendees.

Dr. Caroline Carney Doebbeling, chief medical officer of MDwise, said, “At MDwise, we are strong advocates that education is a critical component proper child and health care. We have made it a priority year after year to get out in the local communities we serve and provide valuable information, free of charge, to those that need it most. Promoting proper child care is the first step in ensuring a bright future for today’s youth.”

The event was offered by MDwise in collaboration with Daviess-Martin Healthy Families, a voluntary home visitation program designed to promote healthy families and healthy children through a variety of services including child development, access to health care and parent education. The program is part of Healthy Families Indiana and Healthy Families America. "We appreciate our partnership with MDwise. As an agency that works with prenatal and new mothers, it is so nice to be able to give back to them by providing a fun atmosphere where they can connect with other mothers and at the same time become aware of all the services that are available to them in the community,” said Sandy Clarke with Daviess-Martin Health Families. “It was a huge hit last year and we couldn’t wait to do it again this year."

The Washington “Bluebelle Baby Shower” is part of a statewide initiative developed by MDwise to deliver critical parenting information free of charge to mothers in need.
