More than 400 students at Grassy Creek Elementary receive backpacks filled with school supplies from MDwise

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Today, every student at Grassy Creek Elementary School in Warren Township received a backpack filled with school supplies from MDwise, Indiana’s only not-for-profit managed health care organization serving those on the state’s Hoosier Healthwise, Healthy Indiana Plan and Care Select health coverage programs, during an all-school assembly. Indiana State Senator Patricia Miller (District 32) helped to identify Grassy Creek as a Warren Township school deserving of these donations.
MDwise donated the more than 400 backpacks filled with notebooks, pencils, erasers and crayons to the school as part of its “Tools for Schools” program, a statewide initiative that provided more than 10,000 supply-filled backpacks to schools and back-to-school events across Indiana in 2011. Now in its third year, the program will donate more than 10,500 of these supply-filled backpacks across Indiana throughout 2012.
“The school year is right around the corner and MDwise understands that new school supplies are critical to a student’s academic success,” said Charlotte MacBeth, chief executive officer of MDwise. “We welcomed the opportunity to provide these students with much-needed supplies. Achieving academic success contributes to the mental and emotional health of students by giving them self-confidence which is a notion we strongly support as a health care focused organization.”
“It is encouraging for children to see that they are supported, not only by their families and school, but also by the greater community,” said Betsy Snapp, principal of Grassy Creek Elementary. “What a great way for MDwise to promote education and reach out to the students of Grassy Creek!”
“MDwise Tools for Schools” is a part of Ms. Bluebelle’s Club for Kids, MDwise’s comprehensive program that promotes the healthy well-being of Hoosier children through special activities and outreach.
“Thanks to MDwise, the students at Grassy Creek have the tools they need to get the new school year off to a good start,” added Senator Miller. “Donations like these have a positive impact on our community. Not only does this program provide students with new backpacks, but it also gives them supplies they need to succeed inside the classroom.”
