600 students affiliated with Healthlinc in northern Indiana receive backpacks and school supplies through contribution from MDwise

Indianapolis, Ind. – 600 students in northern Indiana received backpacks filled with school supplies at multiple Healthlinc Back-to-School events donated by MDwise. MDwise is Indiana’s only not-for-profit managed care health care entity serving those on the state’s Hoosier Healthwise, Healthy Indiana Plan and Care Select health coverage programs.

The “MDwise Tools for Schools,” program provides backpacks filled with school supplies to students across the state. The backpacks contain notebooks, pencils, erasers and crayons. The Healthlinc locations that received backpacks as part of this campaign include Michigan City, Knox, Mishawaka and Valparasio.

Heathlinc, Inc. is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to improving the lives of Northwest Indiana residents by providing quality health care. MDwise collaborated with Healthlinc to identify events, which had students who would benefit most from this donation.

“Donating these backpacks gives students the opportunity to own new schools supplies, and the ability to focus on their academic success," said Charlotte MacBeth, chief executive officer of MDwise. “MDwise believes that complete health is comprised of multiple health elements. Giving students motivation will help their self-confidence, and lead them towards success.”

“MDwise Tools for Schools” is part of Ms. Bluebelle’s Club for Kids, MDwise’s comprehensive program that promotes the health and well-being of Hoosier Children through special activities and outreach. In 2012, Tools for School provided more than 10,000 back packs filled with school supplies to back-to-school events across Indiana. Now in its fourth year, the program will continue to donate more than 10,000 backpacks to back to school events and activities across Indiana in 2013.
