INDIANAPOLIS – 1,800 school aged children throughout Indiana received backpacks filled with school supplies at multiple Covering Kids and Families (CKF) Back-to-School events because of a donation from MDwise, Indiana’s only not-for-profit managed health care entity serving those on the state’s Hoosier Healthwise, Healthy Indiana Plan and Care Select health coverage programs.

The “MDwise Tools for Schools,” program provides backpacks filled with school supplies to students across the state. The backpacks contain notebooks, pencils, erasers, and crayons. The CKF coalitions that received backpacks as part of this campaign include Fort Wayne, Muncie, Indianapolis, Gary, Hammond and East Chicago.

CKF of Indiana is a statewide organization made up of more than 500 community organizations committed to assisting Hoosier children and families enroll for Indiana health coverage programs. With the help from MDwise, CKF enacts various special events, such as Back-to-School events and health fairs, to spread awareness.

“MDwise has partnered with CKF for over the past 10 years, and firmly believes in supporting their health care initiatives and efforts,” said Charlotte MacBeth, chief executive officer of MDwise. “We recognize that being healthy is an important success factor for a child to receive a good education. We hope that these new backpacks will contribute to that success.”

“MDwise Tools for Schools” is part of Ms. Bluebelle’s Club for Kids, MDwise’s comprehensive program that promotes the health and well-being of Hoosier Children through special activities and outreach. In 2012, Tools for School provided more than 10,000 back packs filled with school supplies to back-to-school events across Indiana. Now in its fourth year, the program will continue to donate more than 10,000 backpacks to back to school events and activities across Indiana in 2013.
