MDwise donates backpacks stuffed with school supplies to 1,000 students at in Indianapolis at Back-to-School health fairs

INDIANAPOLIS – Over the past weeks, over 1,000 school aged children received backpacks in Marion County. The backpacks were donated by MDwise. MDwise is Indiana’s only not-for-profit managed care entity serving Indiana’s Hoosier Healthwise, Healthy Indiana Plan and Care Select health coverage programs.
The backpacks were stuffed with school supplies, such as paper, pencils, crayons and erasers. The backpacks were distributed at several school related health fairs across Marion County. MDwise donates backpacks through its Tools for School program, which gives 10,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies across the State of Indiana. This is the fourth year the program will donate more than 10,000 of these supply-filled backpacks across Indiana throughout 2013.
Children who participated in Back-to-School events at the following locations throughout Marion County received the backpacks:

  • Shalom Health Care Center
  • Marion County Public Health Department
  • Raphael Health Center
  • Jane Pauley Health Center

Charlotte MacBeth, chief executive officer of MDwise, said, “As a statewide health care organization, we recognize that a child’s health affects their performance in school. We hope these backpacks and school supplies provide young Indiana students the tools they need to achieve success in school.”
MDwise strives to make the classroom experiences as meaningful and constructive as possible by ensuring that students have the tools they need to learn.
“MDwise Tools for Schools” is a part of Ms. Bluebelle’s Club for Kids, MDwise’s comprehensive program that promotes the health and well-being of Hoosier children through special activities and outreach.
