MDwise Supports Governor Mike Pence’s leadership on Health Coverage Expansion

INDIANAPOLIS – This morning, Governor Mike Pence outlined his plan to expand coverage to low-income Hoosiers.  The strategy involves using the Healthy Indiana Plan, employer-based plans and incentives to transform health care for the Medicaid-eligible population in Indiana.

“We commend Governor Pence for his leadership on expanding coverage for underserved Hoosiers. We’re hopeful that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will approve this consumer-driven design, which is key to ensuring Hoosiers understand the importance of health care and empower them to care for themselves,” said Charlotte MacBeth, chief executive officer of MDwise.

The Healthy Indiana Plan is a consumer-driven healthcare program that moves people from emergency rooms to primary care and encourages low-income Hoosiers to take more ownership of their own healthcare decisions.

MDwise has partnered with the State of Indiana to offer the Healthy Indiana Plan since 2007, as well as other Indiana Health Coverage Programs for the past 20 years. The Healthy Indiana Plan currently covers about 40,000 Hoosiers.  This plan would expand eligibility options for approximately 180,000 to 300,000 individuals.

“Governor Pence’s Healthy Indiana Plan expansion will close the coverage gap and provide a pathway to good health for more Hoosiers,” added MacBeth.
