MDwise members are living healthier lives using Voxiva’s digital health programs

Evidence supports that Connect4health messages increase members’ annual physical visits

INDIANAPOLIS - MDwise members who are enrolled in Voxiva's Connect4health digital health messaging program were 57 percent more likely to attend their annual physical exam within 90 days of receiving interactive text messages, according to a recent analysis of claims data.

Through the federal Lifeline assistance program, eligible MDwise members receive a free mobile phone and monthly service, unlimited text messaging, free calls to member services, and Voxiva’s evidence-based health messaging program, Connect4health, at no charge.

“By providing these innovative tools to our members, we are helping them access care and improve their health – two initiatives that are of the utmost importance to us,” said Cesar Martinez, President and CEO, MDwise. “Since offering Connect4health, we’ve seen our members really engage with their text messages and take steps toward a healthier life for them and their families.”

Connect4health delivers timely and personalized messages that drive healthy behaviors and encourage members to engage with their health plan. The service is designed to improve key quality measures for health plans (HEDIS) and to increase member engagement, satisfaction and retention. Campaigns include promotion of wellness check-ups and physical exams, preventive screenings, flu shots and vaccination adherence.

Connect4health Improves Member Health and Engagement

One of the key goals of Connect4health is to increase attendance rates for recommended preventative screenings. For members who are overdue for an annual physical, Connect4health sends a personalized set of messages explaining that MDwise covers exams and encouraging them to go. An analysis of MDwise claims data showed that the more than 22,000 members who received these personalized messages were 1.5 times more likely to attend an annual physical visit within 90 days of receiving them. In addition:

  • 63 percent of MDwise members said Connect4health messages helped them remember to go to their doctor,
  • 61 percent of MDwise members said they used a resource or learned about MDwise plan benefits from Connect4health, and
  • 52 percent of MDwise members said they talked to a doctor or nurse about topics in the messages.

"For more than 14 years, Voxiva has been leveraging the reach of mobile technology to improve health outcomes. We are delighted that this partnership with MDwise is showing how we can reach and engage MDwise members at very large scale and help achieve critical health goals," said Paul Meyer, chairman and president, Voxiva.
