In its ongoing effort to reduce health disparities, MDwise has hired Anye Carson, MPH, as its first health equity officer.
Carson spearheads a health equity action plan that applies a health equity lens to all aspects of the organization. It will advance health equity and incorporate culturally and linguistically appropriate services for MDwise members.
Most recently, a senior clinical operations associate at Parexel, Carson previously worked for the IUPUI ECHO (Extension for Community Health Outcomes) Center, Nurse-Family Partnership and Indiana Minority Health Coalition. The Indiana Public Health Association has recognized her with the Stephen Jay Leadership Award for her public health initiatives. Indiana Minority Health Coalition also awarded her the Nancy Jewell Minority Health Spirit award for her efforts to eliminate health gaps among minorities in Indiana. She graduated from the University of Indianapolis, earning a bachelor's degree in community health education and a master's degree in public health: health disparities.

In August, NCQA awarded MDwise the Multicultural Health Care Distinction, which indicates the organization has met or exceeded rigorous standards in serving diverse populations. The distinction also shows that MDwise is providing culturally and linguistically sensitive services and is working to reduce health care disparities.
