Molecular Imaging Outreach Initiatives

Outreach Initiatives

Communication with the community and health care professionals is needed to raise awareness of clinical and research activities available at the Karmanos.

Community Initiatives

Physicians and scientists from the Molecular Imaging Program speak at community forums, such as Gilda’s Club, to help educate cancer patients on the treatments advancements being developed at Karmanos. In addition, Molecular Imaging program members also participate in media-organized forums such as web based ‘chats’ that educate the community about cancer screening. Breast UST has been presented at a number of community forums and tours of the new facility have also been provided.

Health Care Professional Initiatives

Molecular Imaging program members speak at and help organize a number of local and national continuing medical education seminars covering imaging and treatment topics for physicians, nurses, and fellows including updates on breast, GI and thoracic oncology. These conferences include didactic presentations and discussions of illustrative cases to review their evaluation and management. Molecular Imaging physicians also collaborate with community physicians by providing information on available imaging trials at Karmanos, which often includes therapeutic components, thus providing patients access to novel investigational imaging and therapies.
