Payment Options - Healthy Indiana Plan

It is important to make monthly contributions to your POWER Account. You can pre-pay some or all of your contribution. If you fail to make your POWER Account contribution within 60 days:

  • You may lose the chance to see your doctor.
  • Depending on your income level, you may move to HIP Basic or lose all coverage.
  • If you lose coverage, any remaining portion of your contributions left over in your POWER Account balance will be subject to a 25 percent penalty.

Attention HIP members: if you use tobacco, you have 12 months to stop tobacco use or you may have a higher POWER Account contribution. If you don’t stop using tobacco, your POWER Account contribution payment may have a 50 percent surcharge. Example: if your current monthly POWER Account contribution is $10 a month, if you do not stop the use of tobacco in 12 months of your coverage starting, your contribution may go up to $15 the next year.

Tobacco use means the use of tobacco 4 or more times a week in the last 6 months. This includes the use of chewing tobacco, cigarettes, cigars, pipes, hookah and snuff. It does not include the use of nicotine delivery devices.

Pay By Phone

You can pre-pay some or all of your contribution by debit or credit card with our automated payment by phone system. Call our payment center at 866-539-4092 or 800-743-3333 (TTY for hearing and speech impaired).

WISEpay (pay electronically, ACH or check)

WISEpay is an online payment system, also available through myMDwise for Healthy Indiana Plan members.

You must have an account in order to access WISEpay and myMDwise. Follow the steps to register or to create your new account.

WISEpay allows you to make payments the following ways:

  • Electronic credit or debit card payments online.
  • Automatic draft from designated account (also called Automatic Clearinghouse (ACH))
  • Electronic funds transfer (EFT).

Pay By Cash

Please do not mail cash. Below are the ways you can make your monthly contribution by cash:

  1. By using MoneyGram

You can make your POWER Account contribution using cash in person at a MoneyGram location at no cost.

  • Find a MoneyGram location—over 41,000 locations inside retailers like CVS/pharmacy, Walmart and many more.
  • Bring these with you:
    • Cash: enough for your payment
    • Your MDwise Member Identification Number (MID) found on your member ID card
    • Receive code: 15187
  • Complete the MoneyGram ExpressPayment®blue form, use the red MoneyGram phone or use the MoneyGram kiosk to complete your transaction. (Payment processes may vary depending on your location. Simply ask an associate for help.)
  1. By paying at any Key Bank location

Please call the Key Bank Billing and Collection customer service at 866-539-4092 to request payment slips and obtain complete instructions on how to make cash POWER Account contributions with Key Bank.

Payroll Deduction

Ask your employer if you can have your HIP contribution taken from your paycheck. If so, your employer will need to complete the Direct Deposit Form and follow instructions on remittance to Key Bank. Employers may contact customer service at 1-866-539-4092 for assistance.

Pay With Employer or Other Third Party Contribution

Ask your employer or a third party organization if they are willing to pay for part or all of your POWER Account balance. They will need to fill out the Employer/Third Party Contribution Form. This will reduce the amount of money you have to pay.

Your employer or a third party organization can assist with some or all of your monthly POWER Account contributions. You will get a bill each month for the rest. If an employer fails to pay within 60 days, the member will have an additional 60 days to pay. Third Party contributors can be churches, agencies, non-profit organizations or foundations.

HIP is sponsored by the State of Indiana. It offers a basic health insurance benefit plan, subject to individual contributions and paired with a Personal Wellness and Responsibility (POWER) Account. An employer or a third party can assist with some or all of the member's monthly POWER Account contributions.

Getting Started

If you are interested in contributing to your employee’s POWER Account or if you are a third party interested in contributing to a HIP member's POWER Account, please fill out the Employer/Third Party Contribution form.

What is the cost to you as an employer or a third party organization?

  • Your employee or the HIP member pays a portion of his or her POWER Account. The remainder is funded by the State of Indiana. His/her portion is determined by the State based on income and certain eligible expenses. You, the employer or a third party, can assist with some or all of the HIP member's monthly POWER Account contributions.
  • Employer or third party contributions may be paid monthly or annually. Talk to your employee about the contribution amount.
  • Payment options for employers or other third parties include check; money order; automatic payroll deduction; unlimited electronic check or debit card payments via phone; automatic draft withdrawal from designated account; automated clearinghouse; electronic funds transfer (EFT); and online payment system (WISEpay):
  • MDwise will allow employers and other third parties to make lump sum POWER Account payments. MDwise will ensure that lump sum payments are credited against the member’s required POWER Account contributions on a first month’s basis.

Pay By Check or Money Order

Send your check or money order to the address listed on your invoice.

All checks and money orders are held for 10 days to allow them time to clear. Please keep this in mind when mailing your contribution.
