Substance Use Help
Substance use help means getting support for people who are using drugs or alcohol in a way that’s hurting their health, feelings, or life. Sometimes, people use these substances to try to feel better, but it can lead to problems.
Substance use means using things like alcohol, tobacco, or drugs that can change how a person feels, thinks, or acts. Some of these substances are legal for adults, like alcohol or medicine from a doctor. Others are illegal or dangerous when not used the right way.
People might use substances to:
- Try to feel happy or relaxed.
- Fit in with friends.
- Deal with stress, sadness, or pain.
But using substances too much—or in the wrong way—can hurt your body, your brain, and your relationships. That’s why it’s important to learn about them and ask for help if you or someone you know is struggling.
Getting help can mean:
- Talking to a trusted adult or counselor
- Going to a doctor or treatment center
- Joining a support group like AA or NA
- Calling a helpline to talk to someone who listens
