Bruce Hayes - President and CEO

President and CEO – Bruce Hayes, CPA

Mr. Hayes served as MDwise chief financial officer before being appointed president and CEO in July 2018. In this role, he provides corporate leadership, directs business operations, sets current and long-range objectives, plans strategic goals, designs policies and works closely with the executive team to lead the company to achieve overall corporate goals.
 
Mr. Hayes has more than 20 years of experience in health care financial management, leadership and strategy development. Most recently, he served as the vice president of integration management/value capture for Anthem where he was the lead financial officer for a $50 billion health care merger. Previous roles with Anthem included chief financial officer for national accounts/exchanges serving several million customers across 14 states; vice president financial planning & analysis leading the financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis across all of Anthem’s operations; and chief financial officer of operations, technology, and government services.
 
Mr. Hayes holds a Bachelor of Science in finance and risk management from Ball State University. He is a certified public accountant (CPA) from the Indiana CPA Society.
 

James Maguire

Chief Financial Officer – James Maguire

Mr. Maguire joined MDwise as chief financial officer in December of 2018. In this role, he is responsible for the direction and management of all financial aspects for MDwise. Mr. Maguire leads the company’s finance and accounting while overseeing MDwise company budgets, as well as financial and statistical reporting.

Mr. Maguire has 20 years of experience in financial management, leadership and strategy development. Most recently, he served as the Regional Vice President, Finance for Anthem where he supported the Medicaid South Region covering 2.2M Medicaid members across seven state Medicaid plans. He previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for both National Government Services, Inc. (NGS) and WellPoint Military Care Corp. (WMC); Vice President of Financial Operations of the Technology Services Group (TSG) at ManTech International Corporation; Vice President for Finance at DRS C3 & Aviation Company; and Director of Finance and Administration at KAYA Associates. In these roles, he was responsible for financial reporting, forecasting and overall market performance. 
 
Mr. Maguire holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Marymount University, as well as a MBA with a focus on strategy and operations from George Washington University.

Vice President, General Counsel – Patricia Hebenstreit, JD

Ms. Hebenstreit joined MDwise as vice president and general counsel in January of 2009. Ms. Hebenstreit has a wealth of health law and legal related knowledge and experience. She directs and coordinates MDwise's efforts to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and policies that govern its Medicaid business. She also oversees reporting for FSSA, the government affairs staff/activities and a special investigations unit (SIU) that performs program integrity activities for MDwise health plans. 

Ms. Hebenstreit previously worked at the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County where she spent almost six years as chief of staff and two years as general counsel. Prior to that, she spent time as the director of long term care at OMPP and also as director of the medicaid fraud control unit at the Indiana Attorney General’s Office. Ms. Hebenstreit serves on the board of directors of Safe Sitter, Inc. and the executive committee of the Indianapolis Bar Association Health and Life Sciences Committee. Ms. Hebenstreit obtained her J.D. from Indiana University School of Law Indianapolis and her B.A. in political science from Marquette University.

Vice President, Operations – Brian Arrowood

Mr. Arrowood joined MDwise as vice president and chief information officer in November of 2015. He is responsible for leading and directing our business information team, claims and facility operations at MDwise. Mr. Arrowood holds a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in mathematics.
 
Mr. Arrowood has more than 20 years experience in management and leadership in the information systems and information technology fields. Prior to joining MDwise, Mr. Arrowood was responsible for operational risk management at Indiana University Health Revenue Cycle Services. Previous to IU Health, Mr. Arrowood held a cabinet-level position as chief information officer with the State of Indiana under Governor Mitch Daniels. While in his position at the State of Indiana, Mr. Arrowood won the Governor’s Service Award in 2009 and was recognized as one of the nation’s Premier 100 IT leaders in 2012 by Computerworld magazine.
   
Chris Callahan

Vice President, Health Services – Chris Callahan, PharmD

Mr. Callahan was named MDwise vice president of health services in 2018. In this role he leads all divisions of the health services teams, which include pharmacy, care management, medical utilization management and clinical behavioral health.
 
Mr. Callahan brings more than 20 years of organizational leadership and pharmacy experience to MDwise. He began at MDwise as director of pharmacy in 2014. He then assumed the roles of senior director of pharmacy and vice president of pharmacy and medical economics. Prior to working with MDwise, he served as manager outpatient pharmacy at Indiana University Health Arnett. In this role he was responsible for planning, developing and executing the opening and operation of the outpatient pharmacy system.
 
Mr. Callahan holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Purdue University. He is licensed by the Indiana Board of Pharmacy. He is an adjunct assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Purdue University College of Pharmacy and a member of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP).

Medical Director – Dan Spitzberg, M.D. F.A.C.S

 
Dr. Spitzberg joined MDwise as Medical Director in July of 2017 and is responsible for medical reviews for medical, case and disease management and pharmacy services. Dr. Spitzberg currently serves on the Indiana Medicaid Advisory Committee (MAC) and Indiana State Medical Directors Committee.
 
Dr. Spitzberg began his career by practicing as a family physician in Louisville, Kentucky for three years. He then practiced in Indianapolis both in private practice and in the Indiana University Department of Ophthalmology as an associate professor, Chief of Ophthalmology at Methodist Hospital for eight years and rejoined as Vice Chairman in 2018. Dr. Spitzberg operated one of the largest Uveitis clinics in the world called Uveitis Service at Indiana University Department of Ophthalmology for thirty years. In 2014, Dr. Spitzberg became certified in the use of the Femtosecond Laser for cataract surgery and still performs this advanced technology on patients. Dr. Spitzberg also served as a physician reviewer in all areas of medicine for Advantage Health Solutions from January 2014 – October 2016. He was also a medical case management reviewer, including peer to peer review, for Anthem from October 2016 - June 2017.
 
Dr. Spitzberg earned his medical degree from Indiana University Medical School. He completed a residency in Ophthalmology and then a fellowship in Uveitis at Indiana University. He is a board-certified surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He maintains an active clinical practice in addition to his administrative duties. He also served as a captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war.
